IVELAND: — The water is so good that when you fill it in the bath tub, it gets almost completely blue. And washing clothes is a dream, says a happy Lillian Brufjell to Fædrelandsvennen.
Brufjell and her family, and the other neighbours at Vatnestrøm in Iveland north of Kristiansand in Norway, are bathing in luxury bottle water.
They get the same water – both in the water tap and the toilet – as are being exported to the American market. The water is also sold in other places in Norway for 80 kroner (almost 15 USD) per litre.
The water from Voss is well-known in USA. It is said that superstar Madonna demands Voss-water at the hotels she is staying on. Jack Nicholson, Britney Spears, Beyoncé, Cameron Diaz and Farell also prefer this Norwegian natural water.
— We are using it to everything. We are almost getting a bit spoiled, says Lillian Brufjell.
The reason for this luxury on Vatnestrøm, is technical problems with the new water supply.
In 2005, Voss Production signed a contract with Iveland municipality. It said that the company should get the exclusive right to use the clean mineral water – on one condition:
Voss Production should provide a new water source to the people in Vatnestrøm.
But now there are some technical problems with the new water source, and the people at Vatnestrøm had to be reconnected to the old water source.
Helge Håverstad in Iveland municipality says that both the municipality and Voss Production are working on solving the problem with the new water source. But no one knows when the cable is fixed.
Stian Kjellemyr in Voss Production will not answer the question about whether the company has bought the exclusive right to the water source from Iveland municipality or not.
In the meantime, Lillian Brufjell is more than comfortable with the situation.
— I am incredibly lucky to have so good water in my tap, she says.
